Losing a parent or guardian, at any age, is one of life’s most difficult ordeals. For a child or young adult, the emotional strain of this loss is life-altering. On top of the emotional toll, an untimely death can also bring financial stress, making recovery all the more difficult. For too many families, the COVID-19 pandemic has made this an unfortunate reality.
In an effort to help families affected, the nonprofit Life Happens has launched a special COVID-19 Relief Scholarship as a part of the Life Lessons Program and we’re asking for your support. Your donation will go directly to helping students who lost a parent or guardian to this disease; any amount can help.
Through donations from individuals and companies across the US, Life Happens has set a goal to raise $100,000 with the hope of providing ten $10,000 scholarships to each student to support their education.
Life Happens is asking individuals impacted to apply for this scholarship. Students can apply by submitting an essay or video about how the death of a parent or guardian from COVID-19 impacted their lives. We will begin taking submissions in February 2021.
In 2005, Life Happens launched the Life Lessons Scholarship Program for students who had lost a parent who had little to no life insurance. Since its inception, the program has awarded over $2.2 million to students all across the country.
